When I applied for a full time sales position with my current employer in 2005, I knew I had the ability, but not the “paper resume” experience . The pre-qualifications were 5 - 10 years of field sales experience and a college degree. At the time, I had neither. If I submitted a traditional paper resume, after a quick review, it would have been tossed from the stack. Instead, I decided to differentiate myself from the applicants with a video resume. I asked the people who would be writing a letter of recommendation to talk into a camera for 30 minutes. The final product was so powerful that the job requirements were changed to allow me to interview, and eventually get the job. The video is below:
